New game I'm planning

Postby LavaWave » Tue Nov 17, 2009 5:53 pm

For whatever reason I don't know how many members are going to give this a read but either way I'm going to post it anyway.

I'm planning to make another (and possibly last) add-up to ZoniK, I tend to feature it a new engine with friction and such, I'm trying to implement them on GM right now (no sprites imported yet, it's just an engine) and if all else fails I'l go back to the normal ZoniK 1/2/3 styled engine (which is obsolete nowadays anyway)

This will different from the other ZoniK games for a few reason's

-ZoniK will gain newfound powers in the game by collecting shards (not chaos emeralds and not trough bonus stage either and these powers are called neo powers)

-ZoniK begins with 1 power on the game start

-Zones will be selectable, much like in megaman games you select where to go first and trough to hunt for these shards and gain a new ability, this could be either a weapon to help you hunt the enemies or a tool to help you across the stage, once you have collected all the shards you go to the final zones and finish your way up

Have no fear as perhaps that won't be my last Game Maker game I create, I have other plans to make more games in the future.

I like the idea of being able to gain powers, keeps it interesting.
Be sure to post about it in the WIP section as well so we can see how you progress :)
I'd very much like more activity there so starting game creators can see and learn how to tackle a game project.

The addition of powers will keep the sonic newbies from saying "All you do is push right and jump!"

But, yeah, that sounds like a very intresting idea, Lavaball. I'll play it.

How is Gamemaker anyway? Would making a Sonic Engine be easy in that?

Well I guess it's time to say it, I just downloaded Construct and am trying it out right now and remaking one of my old games of Game Maker, So ZoniK 4 is on halt and will be recreated on Construct.

Reasons:
Construct uses DX9 hardware to put physics, shaders and eye candy so ZoniK 4 will look like nextgen
Construct is free and open-source
Many actions make things easy to create and manipulate

Those are just a few but it's better then GameMaker and Multimedia fusion 2 put together.

ZoniK 4 will be made after I done with my remake that is, the remake is being made so I will train my skills with Construct so I'l be prepared using Construct, I definitely recommended.

I've heard good things about Construct. Unfortunately, the only box I have access to right now isn't my gaming box, its my old Vaio, so I don't think Construct games will run. Still good, but there's some to be desired about it.

Anyway... I hear its similar to both TGF2 and Game Maker combined. Truth?

Better, it supports DX9, the event editor and map/frame editor and huge part of it looks more to MMF2 then any other program to me.

That construction game maker is fabulous. I think I'm gonna start using it.

You should if you like high quality 2D game's.

However I have to say it's 3D engine as of yet doesn't compete with Game Maker, it's far more limited in 3D then Game Maker but when it come's to 2D it's better then Game Maker imo.

Glad you gave me 'permission'. Thought you wouldn't like it as you were the one that found it!
