Hi Laura :embb:
Sorry I don't know much about security programs, but it sounds to me that your firewall blocks a lot of sites. So my question is: What kind of windows (XP, Vista) and firewall (Zonealarm, Norton, etc.. or hardware firewall (router)) do you use?

I've always kept my pc safe with avast, incredible to me since I tend to download crap from the deepest corners of the net. xD

I DON'T recommend any software firewalls because they are just slowing down the computer and are totally USELESS
everyone has a hardware firewall in their router - which is enough
additional with the windows firewall and your fine with this part

you should scan your machine with HiJackThis and show the log either here or in a security forums to get it analyzed

also scan your computer with MalwareBytes and/or spybot search & destroy
these are some basic programs that do a nice job

if nothing really helps and you still can't access the site: try to access with a proxy (hidemyass.com) - if it still does not help: format c

The absolute BEST anti-virus/spyware/malware/etc. program is Avast Antivirus. They update almost everyday. Now thats service.

you shouldn't judge just because it updates almost every day - all anti virus programs does that
but yes, avast is good although a bit slow
