A mugen full game called Hi-res mugen not working?

Postby goron352 » Thu Jan 22, 2009 12:14 am

Hi-res mugen, not the screen pack but the full game made by mugen9s, keeps coming up with the error:
Error: can't change video mode
Error message Error: Can't change video to 1280x800x16bits
Is there a reason this is happening? I'm currently using windows vista service pack 2. Could this be interfering with the game or do you think it is something else?

Edit: Oh yeah here's the log.

hi there, first of all thanks for downloading the game :pals:

Now the problem is that your screen resolution will not be able to play the game but dont worry this can be fixed!

First: Go in your Hi-res mugen direcory and into the folder named "data".

Second: Open the file called "mugen.cfg" with notepad.

Third: Use the "ctrl F function to find the part where it says "Video Win".

Finally: change the "width" and "height" to your own choice (800 width and 600 height or 600 width and 400 hieght).

Heres what it looked like before:
;-------------------------------------------------------
[Video Win]
;Enter the width and height of the resolution you want to set here.
;The optimal resolution is 320x240, but if your video card has problems
;You may want to try 640x480.
Width = 1280 }-----------> Change this to 800
Height = 720
} ----------> Change this to 600

;This is the color depth at which to run MUGEN. You should set it to
;16 bit color unless your video card has problems with it.
;16-fastest, 24,32-slower, 8-slowest/worst
Depth = 16

;Set this parameter to 0 to disable screen stretching, and set it to 1 if
;you want to scale it up to fit the current resolution.
Stretch = 1

;Set this parameter to use a resolution-doubling filter. You will
;need a fast machine to use these filters. You will need to increase
;the screen resolution to at least 640x480 for these modes.
;0 - off
;1 - diagonal edge detection
;2 - bilinear filtering
;3 - horizontal scanlines
DoubleRes = 4

And here is what it should look like now:
;-------------------------------------------------------
[Video Win]
;Enter the width and height of the resolution you want to set here.
;The optimal resolution is 320x240, but if your video card has problems
;You may want to try 640x480.

Im sure this should resolve your predicament thank you and enjoy the game.

Oh and it would be a good idea to post any problems with games in this section of the forum Help on Games. dont worry about it and welcome to caiman.

I try to make games as small as possible and some day hope to get an account on megaupload so I can get better rates than crappy sendspace.

Thanks :ok:

Thanks for this info, I can finally play this game (it is a little strange, that a game with 40 characters takes that much space).
