There are many kind of sharks in the North Sea, but I cannot believe that there are Great White Sharks as well. Must be another kind of shark :D
Besides "McJaws".. the name says enough

It certainly does resemble a Great White after looking at it but without seeing it's face properly it's hard to tell. How exciting!!!

Great Whites are great travellers of the world and stand most temperatures. They can be found wherever their lunch resides ;)

What REALLY pisses me off though is how people, press etc continue to call a great white a monster or a maneater!!!!!!!!!!!!    :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :godders:

The great white shark is found mostly in temperate seas throughout the world's oceans. It makes infrequent visits to cold waters and has been recorded off Alaska and Canada.

Great whites can be found along the coastlines of South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, California to Alaska, the east coast of USA and the Gulf coast, Hawaii, most of South America, the Mediterranean Sea, West Africa to Scandinavia, Japan and the eastern coastline of China and southern Russia.
The white shark lives mainly in the upper part of the water column, near the shore. However, it ranges from the surf line to well offshore and from the surface and to depths of over 250m (775ft). This shark commonly patrols small coastal islands inhabited by pinnipeds (seals, sea lions and walruses), offshore reefs, banks and rocky headlands where there is deepwater close to shore. The white shark usually cruises either just off the bottom or near the surface.

Movement

Although information about the white shark's movements is limited by its rarity, some information has been gathered through tag-and-release programs in the United States, South Africa and Australia. These studies reveal that the white shark is capable of making movements on localised, regional and intercontinental scales. Generally, larger individuals undertake long journeys across the great oceans.
The great white is also capable of short, high-speed pursuits and even launching itself clear from the water (breaching). They are propelled through the water by their powerful tails, and they use their fins for balance. Sharks swim constantly, otherwise they will sink as they don't have a buoyant swim bladder like other fish.

I think Jaws had a lot to do with the demonising of Sharks. People assume that all sharks are maneaters and will attack you willie-nilly

These people are very shallow. There have been enough documentries on to prove that 'Jaws' is just fantasy. Peter Benchley actually admitted that he wished he had never agreed to have Jaws on the silver screen because of the devastating affect it had on the Great White numbers.

The shark with the worst reputation is the Bull Shark, it attacks much more often than the Great White and can also tolerate freshwater rivers (namely the Zambizee and is also referred to as the Zambizee Shark) but eaten a man? NEVER!!!

On average there is one... YES ONE ... fatal attack on man by a Great White per year....

Coconuts kill more men a year than sharks do ffs but do we go and put Weedol on the coconut trees? :godders:

Sorry Mags, I wasn't ranting at you :teehee:  :4u:

Don't worry Sal, I knew you were not ranting at me.
My dad said always to treat everything with respect in the sea, he always pointed out that marine biologist who claimed sharks were stupid, this man used to torment them, in the end one killed him, can't remember how or when but if the man was forever grabbing, hitting them you can understand why he was attacked.
